Norwich 5, Maine-Endwell 2
ENDWELL – Norwich avenged a one-point loss to Maine-Endwell earlier this season defeating the Spartans for the first time in 10 years on Wednesday.
Reva Seager at third singles and first doubles partners, Emily Stewart and Katie Orioli, avenged losses to their M-E foes from the mid-September matchup to swing the balance of the match.
“This is the biggest win we’ve had in a while,” said Norwich coach John Stewart in summing up the win. “It was freezing cold, and I told (the team) that if we could win the first set, it would take the heart out of them, and they would kind of cave. That’s what happened.”
Norwich won the first five matchups at singles and first doubles in straight sets. Seager beat Meredith Suwak, 6-3, 6-3, and Stewart-Orioli avenged a three-set defeat to Dominqua Hudy and Allison Unger winning 6-2, 6-1.
“This win shows that we’re progressing toward playing our best tennis, and that was my goal as a coach,” Stewart said. “We are playing toward that goal, and hope to still have a shot at tying for the division.”
Norwich is one game behind Maine-Endwell in the STAC division standings, and needs Owego to beat M-E on Friday to force a tie for the division title.

S-E boys sweep
POLAND – For the second time this season, Sherburne-Earlville’s boys swept a four-way meet in dual team scoring. The Marauders beat Poland (25-31), Old Forge (25-30), and West Canada Valley (19-39) to improve their overall Center State Conference record on Wednesday.
“It was wet and cold, and because of that, the times weren’t fabulous,” said S-E co-head coach Anne Geary. “We did have enough to pull out the dual wins, and that gives us some good momentum going into our invitational on Saturday.”
S-E’s Noah Huff placed first among the 33 runners timing a 19:25, and Dan Palmiter was less than a minute back placing fourth in 20:12. Dan Stanton (seventh-place), Ryan Downey (12th-place), and James Bennett (15th-place) all finished in the top-half of the field to secure the victories.
Sopheia Eddy gave S-E a sweep of first-place finishes topping the 17-runner girls field. Eddy timed a 22:53, and teammate Gabby Huff was third in 27 minutes flat.
The Marauders’ annual invitational this Saturday will commence varsity racing at 10 a.m. Geary said 17 schools are expected to attend.
