NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley proved it is capable of playing with the best teams in the Midstate Athletic Conference after an impressive shutout of Sidney on Saturday.
The Storm (3-8) won for just the third time, but were clearly in control against the Warriors, and scored twice in the second half to secure the win.
“We moved the ball nicely today, and Sumi Gysin did an outstanding job limiting the touches of Dani Gravel (Sidney’s top scorer),” said UV coach Chris Bieniek.
Amanda Tumilowicz scored on a crossing pass from kate Fagan with 31 minutes still to play in the game. Carly Lorence added insurance at 22:51 converting a penalty kick after a Sidney hand ball.
UV hosts Greene on Wednesday.

Junior Ashley Cappadonia started the game-winning play in sudden-victory OT drilling a pass upfield to Courtney Jasper. Jasper sent a pass to the corner where freshman Shelby Schefller tipped the ball in for the win.
“Coming off the Hamilton game, we’re continuing to show improvement,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman.
Jasper broke a 0-0 halftime tie tallying unassisted 4:46 into the period. Cecilia Guido had the equalizer for Mohawk with 10:44 left in regulation.
The Marauders host New York Mills tonight.

NORWICH – Oneonta’s 400-yard freestyle relay captured the last event, and went on to defeat the Purple Tornado Friday night.
Norwich was looking for its third meet victory of the season. Wins by Julia Simcoe in the 100-yard breaststroke and Makenzie Williams in the 100-yard breaststroke set the stage for a nail-biting final race.
“We were losing by one point going into the last event, and we finished second and third,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “The girls tried their best tonight, but it was not enough.”

GREENE – Greene’s Katie Crowe broke her own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke as Greene remained unbeaten (5-0) in MAC division play, and completed a season sweep of the Bulldogs.
“Our usually strong swimmers had another good day, but I have to point out the accomplishments of Deanna Bay, Moriah McCauley, Courtney Bentley, and Maureen McDermott,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “They went above and beyond tonight, and all four swam personal-bests. It’s the depth that they provide that has allowed us to stay undefeated in the league.”
Crowe won the breaststroke in 1:15.87, one of seven victories for Greene (5-0, 5-1) on the night.
Jessica Brooks won a pair of individual events taking the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.
Greene travels to Cooperstown on Tuesday.
