Walton hands Greene first loss

Walton 30, Greene 20
WALTON – Greene is now in the position where it cannot lose another division game.
The Warriors capitalized on field position in the second half, and scored on a pair of TD passes to hand the Trojans their first defeat of the season Saturday afternoon.
Walton quarterback Dan Gehl tossed a five-yard TD pass on fourth down to Steve Kaminsky, and then fired a 21-yard strike over a Greene pass rusher and just out of the reach of Greene defensive back to Justin Gardepe in the fourth.
“That second TD pass, it was just a tremendous throw and a tremendous catch,” said Trojans head coach Tim Paske.
Greene’s only turnover of the game, a lost fumble in the third period, gave Walton the ball at the 10-yard line with a golden opportunity to expand its 14-7 halftime lead. It did when Kaminsky was delivered a picture-perfect pass.
Phil Gladstone’s 41-yard pass reception set the stage for the Gardepe TD catch.
Greene had the lead just 13 seconds into the game. Walton fumbled away the opening kickoff, and Scott Gorton hit Brendan Kinne on a 17-yard scoring pass on the Trojans’ first offensive play.
Touchdown dashes by Evan Boyd and Phil Hanley moved Walton back on top. The Warriors had 145 rushing yards at halftime, but were held to just 40 rushing yards in the second half. As a result, Walton used the airways for its two second-half scores.
Greene answered Walton’s last touchdown with a Gorton six-yard do-it-yourselfer in the fourth stanza. “Overall, we did a good job, the big thing is that we didn’t finish drives,” Paske said.
Greene won the total yards battle 269-263. Tyler Beckwith scored on a 20-yard TD run in the third quarter and led Greene with 76 yards on 15 totes.

B-G 28, Livingston Manor 0
BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford was dominant at the line of scrimmage, and fullback Daren Terpstra rushed for a career-high 184 yards as the Bobcats recorded their first shutout this season on Friday.
It was the fourth straight win for B-G, whose lone loss was a six-point defeat at Sidney in week one.
“The key has been the way our line has jelled,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly, who also noted that youngsters Austin Wheeler and Robert Ireland have made contributions. “A lot of times last night, our running backs were getting through the line, and weren’t touched until the second level.”
B-G quarterback Justin Pepper sandwiched TD runs of one and eight yards around Billy Holden’s four-yard run. Dakota Vandermark added a six-yard TD jaunt in the second quarter to raise the B-G lead to 28-0.
“We’ve been on a nice roll,” Mattingly said. “We got some kids back after the Sidney game, and we solidified our offensive line. There are still areas we need to work on, and we’ll have to play well for four quarters in our division games.”
B-G finished with 290 yards rushing, and held Livingston Manor-Roscoe to just 19 total yards rushing.

Sidney 42, UV-Edmeston 6
SIDNEY – Sidney score four times in the first half to offset the second kickoff return TD for UV-E in as many weeks, and went on to a Section IV, Division V victory on Friday night.
Dylan Umbra threw two TD passes in the first half, and Anthony Masi had a 25-yard TD fumble return in the first quarter to pace the Warriors.
John Lopez offset those scores with an 83-yard kickoff return to put the Storm (0-5) on the board. “John ran it straight up the middle, and just hit a higher gear when he was in the open field,” said UV-E coach Jack Loeffler.
Umbra threw for 96 yards, and running back Tyler Moffitt had a pair of TD runs in the second half. Sidney finished with 268 yards on the ground.
“They ran their offense to perfection, as they have for years,” Loeffler said. “We had guys moving in the right direction (on defense), they just weren’t finishing off the play.”
UV-E plays its homecoming game this weekend when it entertains Unatego.

The Marauders’ Will Slentz burst 41 yards from scrimmage on the first drive of the game to the Mount Markham 20. A penalty bogged the drive down as S-E gave the ball up on downs.
