County spends $710,000 on kitchen costs in 2008

NORWICH – Chenango County spent $3.17 per meal feeding inmates, seniors citizens and Public Safety Facility employees in 2008, according to a report from Area Agency on Aging Director Deb Sanderson.
The director told county lawmakers this week that 224,000 meals were served last year. The per-meal rate includes the price of paper products and labor as well as food.
Sanderson said she came within $44 of what was budgeted, despite not knowing what to expect. The Area Agency on Aging’s food preparation and delivery services moved to the Public Safety Facility in 2006, but merging the two operations wasn’t completed until 2007.
Sanderson said she anticipated preparing fewer meals in 2009 due to lower inmate numbers.
