S-E names assistant principal
SHERBURNE – District board members have appointed an interim assistant principal for Sherburne-Earlville Middle School despite cost saving ideas discussed at a meeting last month.
David Potter was appointed to the position, effective Oct. 19. He has been a Unadilla Valley science teacher since 1995 and completed an administrative internship during the 2003/2004 school year.
The opening came about after Middle School Assistant Principal Jolene Emhof stepped in as interim principal when the school’s principal unexpectedly left in early September.
“There was no interview process for the interim assistant because of the lateness (of the former principal leaving),” said Gayle Hellert.
The district is not currently interviewing for the principal’s job either, for which Emhof is a candidate. Hellert said the interim positions would remain throughout the school year and the board of education would be reviewing the district’s administrative structure for the 2010/2011 school year after January.
The district continues to await state education department approval before it can begin Phase 11 of a $25.5 million capital building project. Phase 1 included a concession’s stand, a band room addition to the Elementary School, parking lots, carpet, mechanical and electrical upgrades. All but the addition were completed prior to school starting in September.
Phase 2 involves construction at the middle and high school building. The work is anticipated to begin in January 2010 and to be completed by December 2011.
