SHERBURNE – Big M Manager Jim Fowler said he hopes to complete the acquisition of the former Great American grocery store by the end of this month or in early November.

“We have nothing official,” he said. “We’re getting pretty close, but haven’t closed on the property.”

A proposed purchase and move to the much larger space less than a mile up Main Street was announced about 10 months ago. Fowler said underground environmental issues surrounding a former gasoline station that was once located at the site delayed the project. The problem involved some clean up, he said.
