Norwich doubles team reaches sectional semifinals

Class B sectionals
OWEGO – Norwich sophomores Bryn Loomis and Sophie Stewart advanced to the Section IV, Class B Tournament semifinals winning two matches on Tuesday.
The NHS doubles team won both of its matches in straight sets, the latter win over number five seed Charissa Guy and Ellen Loughlin of Seton Catholic Central, 6-3, 6-3.
“They’ve come back this year more mature and they’re playing with a lot more focus,” said Norwich coach John Stewart of his doubles team.
Action in the tournament resumes today at Owego.

NORWICH – On Norwich’s senior recognition night, the Black Knights came up with the winning goal in the final 10 minutes of play to break a 2-2 tie.
Logan Nagle hit a long-range shot that deflected off a Norwich’s defender’s head and into the upper corner of the net.
“It was the most physical game I’ve seen my team play in three years,” said Norwich coach John McCumiskey. “We had a bunch of nice balls up front, and it was definitely the most shots on goals we’ve had.”
Norwich sliced a 2-0 deficit in half with 6:45 remaining in the opening period. Dyer Moore’s throw-in skipped through the Windsor defense, and Nate Perry connected on his shot.
Jason Woodard tied the game up in the second half as Moore again was tabbed with the assist.
Woodard, Moore, Kyle Acenowr, and Nathan Pullas were seniors honored during halftime. Norwich finishes the season 0-13.

Carson King had two goals and one assist for the Bulldogs, who meet Greene on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the MAC title game.
“We definitely didn’t help ourselves out, and gave them too many good opportunities,” said Oxford coach Matt Dorman.
Kyle Ferrington had Oxford’s lone goal, his 22nd of the season.

Anna Crumb had the initial goal three minutes into play. Chrissy Conroe tapped back a free hit to Crumb, who carried the ball inside the penalty circle and drove home a shot. Andrea Day, Erin Smith, and Emily Conroe added goals for Greene, and Chrissy Conroe picked up three assists.
Greene plays Walton Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the MAC Championship Game.

AFTON – Chelsea DeMott and Erin Daly had three total victories for Afton/B-G on Tuesday, and each swimmer inched closer to the 50- and 100-yard freestyle school records.
DeMott and Daly each swam on two winning relays, with DeMott taking the 50 in 28.84, and Daly the 100 in 1:02.46.
The Makos will compete in the Midstate Athletic Conference Championships, Friday at Delhi.
