Cyclones’ ‘C’ team wins share of title
WHITESBORO – The Norwich Cyclones’ “C” team defeated the Whitesboro Warriors 28-13 for a share of the Eastern Division Tri-Valley title with Holland Patent and Whitesboro this past Sunday..
The Cyclones handed the Warriors their first loss in two years as Cole Rifanburg rushed for 149 yards and TDs of 13, 9, and 37 yards, while teammate Dale Geislinger had a fourth-quarter 40-yard TD to seal the victory. Geislinger rushed for 113 yards behind the dominant Cyclones line.
The Cyclones’ defense was led by Paden Burlison, Rifanburg, Geislinger, Carter Hubbard and Austin Hendrickson.
The Cyclones’ “B” team downed Whitesboro 8-6 for an exciting win. The Warriors scored first on their opening possession on a six-minute drive.
Alec Weaver scored the Cyclones’ TD in the second quarter on a five-yard run with Killian Benedict kicking the all-important two-point conversion.
The Cyclone defense was led by Benedict and Jon Manwarren, with Weaver, Landon Cummings, Jordan Vinal, Dan Zieno, Matt Parella and Cameron Edwards stopping the Warriors after their initial possession.
The Cyclone “D” team had their way with the Warriors in a non-scoring contest. The Cyclones’ D team finished the regular season with an unblemished record.
The Cyclone “A” team end the regular season unbeaten by defeating Cazenovia, 34-6.
On the third play of the game, Michael Sutton found Frank Garcia for a 25-yard TD pass. Still in the first quarter, Keegan Franklin scored on a 15-yard TD run. In the second stanza, Tristan Rifanburg scored on a four-yard run.
The Scoring continued in the second half on the first play when Trent Stone intercepted a Cazenovia option pitch and rumbled 35 yards for a TD. Sutton finished the scoring with a 12-yard pass to Michael Oralls.
Randy Stokes, John Marvin, and Juante Schwartz had extra points for the Cyclones.
This season, the A team has outscored its opponents by a combined 218-28 through seven games.
The Cyclone A and B team cheerleaders competed in the state cheerleading championship in Albany over the weekend. The squads both represented the Cyclones well and enjoyed the experience.

11 a.m., D team vs. Waterville, at Norwich, Alumni Field. 1 p.m., C team vs. Marcy-Deerfield at Norwich. 3 p.m., A team vs. Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, at Norwich. The B team, 3 p.m. at Holland Patent.
