Decorate and donate with Hospice poinsettias
NORWICH – In the middle of winter it’s nice to have a splash of living color in your home, and the flower most associated with Christmas is the poinsettia. Millions are sold each year and only the Christmas tree is a more popular decoration.
Hospice of Chenango County would like to remind individuals that they can support the work of Hospice by purchasing beautiful poinsettias during their upcoming campaign. The money raised helps fill the gap between what Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance reimburses the agency for an individual’s care, and the true cost of care. “In these tight economic times, it’s more important than ever that our fundraisers are successful,” says the agency’s Development and Community Relations Coordinator Donna Wood-Craig. “We are in the process of mailing order forms to those on our mailing list, as well as running internal sales in many schools and businesses throughout Chenango County similar to our spring plant sale.”
It’s easy to find poinsettias this time of year but the quality isn’t always reliable. Last year Hospice worked with a new vendor and Wood-Craig said the plants were beautiful. “You can probably find less expensive plants elsewhere, however, when your purchase a plant from Hospice a significant amount of your dollars go directly toward providing competent and compassionate care to patients approaching the end of life.”
The poinsettias are available in red, pink, white and marble (red and white), in 6”, 8” and 10” pot sizes. “The 10” potted plants are spectacular,” says Wood-Craig. “They can literally fill the corner of a large room.” If you would like to support the sale, call the Hospice office at 334-3556 to place an order. Plants will be delivered to Norwich and ready for pickup on Wednesday, Dec. 2. The pickup point for customers in Afton, Bainbridge, Greene, Oxford and Sherburne will be their local NBT bank branch location on that same day.

More than 50 percent of current patients DO NOT have cancer. Hospice services are designed for anyone approaching the end of life who’ve been diagnosed with any number of conditions.
