Norwich holds H1N1 flu vaccine clinic for students
NORWICH – The Norwich City School District will be holding a free H1N1 flu clinic on Dec. 18 in conjunction with the Chenango County Health Department.
The vaccine, which will be administered either in nasal or injectable form based on the wishes of parents, will be available to all school-age children residing in the Norwich City School District free of charge. In order for their child to receive the vaccine, parents or guardians must complete and return a permission slip by Monday, Dec. 14.
According to Superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan, copies of the permission slip were sent home earlier this week. The form is also available on the district’s website, www.norwichcityschooldistrict.com. A reminder will also go out to parents via the district’s Global Connect system, the superintendent reported.
The shots will be administered by health department staff on the day of the clinic at the Stanford Gibson Primary School, Perry Browne Intermediate School and the High School/Middle School Campus.
“Our numbers have stayed very, very low,” stated O’Sullivan, referring to the incidence of H1N1 among Norwich students to date. But while he said he is no longer as concerned about the virulent flu strain as he was at the beginning of the school year, he still encourages parents to take the opportunity to protect their families against further spread of the illness
“If it helps a couple of kids, we’re ahead of the game,” he said.
