ABGHS 85, Cooperstown 77

AFTON – In spite of winning just two of the 11 events, the Makos’ superior depth gave it an eight-point win over Cooperstown Thursday.

“They had the top swimmers most of the time, but we would end up placing second, third, and fourth,” said ABGHS coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “All of our swimmers’ times are bunched really well. We’re off to a good start (2-0), we’ll see how the rest of the duals go.”

Picking up wins for the Makos were Rob McLean in the 100 breastroke (1:21.35) and Nate Cutting in the 500 free (6:22.12).

ABGHS is at Oneonta on Tuesday.

Greene 104, S-E 66

GREENE – Greene won its 44th straight Midstate Athletic Conference dual meet defeating Sherburne-Earlville on Thursday.

The Trojans (2-0) earned a great measure of their lead sweeping the top three spots in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. George Flanagan claimed the 50 free for the Trojans, and Ryan Ludwig was a winner in the 100.

“Even though the score does not indicate it, Sherburne-Earlville has improved quite a bit,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “Our kids were up for this meet.”

Greene competes at Chenango Valley on Tuesday.
