New Berlin man charged for stabbing wife, accosting relative
NEW BERLIN – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Berlin man Tuesday for allegedly stabbing his wife with a knife after sexually accosting one of her relatives.
Deputies charged 26-year-old Prince-Aarion J. Suwarrow with second degree assault, a felony, after he allegedly stabbed his wife’s hand as the two struggled for a knife during a domestic dispute. She was treated for minor lacerations at the scene and released.
He was also charged with three other misdemeanors, including third degree menacing for allegedly holding the blade to the victim’s throat and threatening to kill her. The 12:40 a.m. domestic dispute also allegedly took place in front of a young child, and Suwarrow was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Police also charged him with forcible touching, a misdemeanor sex crime, for allegedly touching a relative of the family in an intimate area without consent, prior to the altercation with his wife.
Police did not say what started the argument, but said witnesses told them Suwarrow attempted to flee the residence after finding out police were contacted. About four minutes after allegedly fleeing a short distance across the county line, Suwarrow was apprehended by a sheriff’s patrol that happened to be in the immediate area at the time.
Police said they received the call at 12:40 a.m. and had the defendant in custody by 12:44 a.m., only minutes later.
Suwarrow was arraigned in Town of New Berlin Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear back in local court today for a felony hearing.
