Frontier joins the Chenango United Way to fight hunger

NORWICH – Every year, the Chenango United Way sets aside a portion of money raised during its fall campaign to give to local food pantries and soup kitchens.
“We had raised approximately $8,000 in 2008 toward this purpose,” said Elizabeth Monaco, Executive Director and Chief Professional Officer for the Chenango United Way. “Then we heard that Frontier Communications had decided to run a special promotion titled ‘The Great Frontier Donate: Let’s Talk Up A Cause’ initiative.”
From May through October of 2009, for any new residential or business customer who chose a Frontier service which included long distance, or when an existing customer upgraded their long distance service to a Frontier bundle, such as Frontier Business Unlimited, a donation would be made to a local United Way.
The $8,000 allocated by the Chenango United Way, coupled with the efforts of Frontier, succeeded in raising over $16,000 this year, which was distributed to 18 Chenango County food pantries and soup kitchens.
According to www.Frontier.com, the company’s leaders wanted to contribute to hunger relief projects, and the United Way was a good conduit for giving to local food pantries and relief centers. “Frontier has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve,” according to its website. “We have a strong local presence and our employees are committed to our customers and to the communities they reside in and serve.”
Frontier also expects to give up to $250,000 nationwide, in addition to the food donations received through its employees and public food drives.
“As unemployment and economic challenges continue to face our community, we would like to be able to continue contributing to the hunger cause in 2010,” said Monaco. “This will depend largely on the success of this year’s campaign. We are currently at 88 percent ($408,482) of our $465,000 goal.”
Donations to the Chenango United Way will be accepted until noon on Thursday, Dec. 31. For more information call 334-8815 or visit www.chenangouw.org. For information on the Great Frontier Donate visit www.Frontier.com/Donate.
