Order Habitat carnations now for Sweetheart Day
OXFORD – Key volunteer, Sandra Colton is the new leader for Chenango County Habitat for Humanity’s 16th annual Red Carnation Sale. The sale will raise funds to support Chenango County Habitat for Humanity’s next house project. Keep an eye out for upcoming word of the selected family and location. Orders for carnations will be taken from Jan. 4-24 by calling a representative in your area or Sandra Colton 334-7492.
Red carnation prices are $10/half dozen; and $15/dozen. In years past, Habitat’s 300+ volunteers have sold over 15,000 flowers, raising close to $9,000. Distributions and pick-ups will be on Saturday, Feb. 6 and Thursday, Feb. 11 – just in time for Valentine’s Day bouquets for sweethearts.

This selfless dedication is demonstrated as Sandra, and her assistant coordinators, arrange the flower distribution. First the carnations are split up to the four main centers: Zion Episcopal Church in Greene; Norwich Broad Street Methodist Church; St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Oxford; and St. Malachy’s Roman Catholic Church in Sherburne. From there, the flower distribution branches out to dozens of churches, businesses/schools (staff & student councils)/colleges/health related/adult & nursing homes/civic organizations/real estate agencies/and restaurants.
