Chenango Valley 61, Norwich 47
NORWICH – Norwich’s offense hit a sustained dry spell in the second half, and Chenango Valley guard, Caitlin Roberts, caught fire from three-point land as the Warriors pulled away for the victory on Saturday afternoon.
Roberts hit two three-pointers in the third quarter turning a one-point halftime lead into a 48-38 lead entering the fourth quarter. Roberts’ last trifecta came with 2:22 left, and put any Norwich comeback hopes to rest extending the margin to 59-42.
“We had watched Roberts in two other games, and she was not making those shots,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. “What are you supposed to do?”
CV also hurt Norwich on the offensive boards in the second half, especially forwards Khylah Moss and Mikala King. Moss had a team-high 18 points, while King added 16 markers.
Norwich matched CV nearly point for point in the first half. Hannah Runyon scored 15 of her 20 points in the opening half, and Hailey Dietrich scored three baskets in the second quarter as NHS trailed 32-31.
“I don’t know what it is about the second half,” Bennett said. “We seem to go through a two- or three-minute lull. We have to find a way to get through that.”

Oxford 59, Harpursville 48
HARPURSVILLE – Oxford coach Chris Palmer said Friday’s result may open some eyes.
The Blackhawks beat state-ranked Harpursville on its home floor, and dealt the Hornets their first league defeat. In the process, Oxford moved into first place in MAC division play holding a one-game lead over B-G and Harpursville.
“There’s a long way to go in the season, but this win was huge for us, and it puts us in a good spot,” Palmer said.
Oxford shot the ball better than 50 percent from the field to open a 30-16 lead. As well, the Oxford defense limited MAC’s leading scorer Hannah Kimmel to just seven points at the break. Kimmel finished with 27, but nearly half of those markers came in the last quarter with her team in desperation mode.
“We held them to four field goals in the first half, and that’s something that jumps out against a team like Harpursville,” Palmer said. “We couldn’t have played any better defensively in the first half. On offense, we just shot lights-out, and hit a lot of mid-range shots. It was our night to shoot the ball well.”
Haley Witchella had 19 points, 12 rebounds, and eight blocked shots. Alyshia Crawford led with 21 points and nine rebounds. Crawford was 6-for-6 from the foul line in the last stanza to keep the lead in double digits.
