DVD Patrol

The Patrol is heating up, gang! The DVD Patrol is finding ways to stay warm during this real cold blast and we’ve found some good ones to get you warmed up. The crazy furnace guy himself, the Toddster, has been stoking the fire with a few movies that may warm you up and even make you feel good or throw a scare into you. Sit by the fire because here we go!

New on DVD

Fame - We all have dreams of making it big someday. I mean look at those kids on a little show called “American Idol.” This is the one that made making it big look easy. When you’re going to a special school for the performing arts, easy might not be the word you will be looking for. With this new class of students, they all think they have what it takes to make it in the big time. Some specialize in dance, acting, or singing. Whatever their area, they will have to prove to the faculty they can do what they say. Do they have the chops to make it? Sources tell me that a sequel may be in the works and you can catch the first two seasons of the original TV show on DVD on stores now.

The Hurt Locker - It’s always said you never want to take your work home with you or leave your work at work. These guys don’t really do that. Based on real life accounts, Sergeant Bill James (Jeremy Renner) is a member of the EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) crew and they work in Iraq taking out land mines and unexploded bombs just to name a few. Not an easy job when you’re also in danger from things like snipers and drive by shootings.. They never want to go to the “Hurt Locker,” which is that they refer as losing their lives. James and his men work very hard to make it safe for the Army and all of the people around them. Can they do the job and stay out of “The Hurt Locker?” Another movie set in the same place is “The Green Zone” starring Matt Damon. Damon plays a soldier stationed overseas who becomes aware of some espionage going on and gets the blame. Now he has to find a way to clear his name and this movie explodes into theaters soon.

Also on DVD

Halloween II - Director Rob Zombie (Halloween) returns again to direct this scary movie that restarted the franchise. Michael Myers (Tyler Mane) returns for even more mayhem as he comes back to find his sister Laurie Strode (Scout T. Compton) and make Halloween even scarier for the townspeople. At the end of the last movie, everyone thought Michael was gone but little do they know the ambulance carrying him crashes and he makes out alive. He goes into hiding to wait for the right time to come out and hunt for his sister who doesn’t know who he really is. His psychiatrist Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) has gone on the talk show circuit to push his book about the elusive killer. How will they deal with the return of Michael? Another sequel on the way is the sequel to “Friday the 13th” which is set for February bringing back a certain hockey faced guy that everyone knows.

Burn Notice - The Toddster always loves to bring stuff back now and again. Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) was a spy stationed all over the world and was good at his job. However, he made someone mad and now he has received a burn notice. A burn notice is a way of saying that a spy has been fired. Now he has to find a way to use his skills as a spy but without the resources he’s used to having. In the pilot episode, Michael has been burned and now has been sent back to his hometown in Miami. Michael has to make a living so he takes a case to prove the innocence of a groundskeeper and has to protect his son at the same time. With the aid of his old girlfriend Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) and Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell), can an old spy find a new way to work? A brand new set with Seasons 1 and 2 has just become available on DVD and is in stores now. Also, Season 3 starts up again on the USA Network Thursday January 21 at 10 p.m.

The Good Witch - It’s always fun to try something new. Catherine Bell (JAG) tries just that when she takes on a different role. Bell plays Cassie Nightingale. Cassie has moved to a little town where everyone thinks she has a very strange way about her. The effect really comes out when she meets the town’s sheriff (Chris Potter) and one might say she has an enchanting way about her. There are also some townspeople who think she has a bad influence and would like nothing better then to see her hit the road or in this case fly away on her broom. Will Cassie be able to use her charms to make the people think differently? A sequel is already on the way and will be coming out on DVD in stores very soon.

Time to get that movie ready and get under that snuggie blanket to warm for a good movie. The next couple of months will be busy with the awards season starting up and will featuring a few here and there. The Toddster shall return.
