Man charged with drug possession after fleeing during traffic stop

AFTON – New York State Police say they arrested a man on drug charges early Saturday morning after he ran from his vehicle into the woods during a traffic stop.

At around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Town of Colesville, a state trooper from the Norwich barracks on road patrol pulled over a vehicle for a traffic infraction on State Highway 235, just across the Chenango County line in Broome County.

After the vehicle pulled over, the driver suddenly opened his door and fled into the snow-covered woods, leaving behind him a female passenger and small amounts of drugs in the car.
