State Trooper killed in car accident
MORRIS – At approximately 2:50 p.m. Wednesday the New York State Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred on State Route 23 in the Town of Morris. Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that Trooper Jill E. Mattice, age 31, assigned to SP Oneonta, was travelling east on State Route 23 when she became involved in a collision with a westbound tractor trailer being operated by F.M. Saggese, 33, of West Oneonta. Trooper Mattice was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Trooper Mattice was a 6 1/2 year veteran of the New York State Police. She was last stationed at SP Oneonta where she was assigned as the School Resource Officer for the Unadilla Valley Central School and Franklin School Districts.
The New York State Police is continuing the investigation.
