Sledding night in Oxford this Friday

OXFORD – Tim McDonald is crossing his fingers and hoping to see more snow before Friday. No, the Oxford Primary School principal isn’t looking for a snow day. He just wants there to be enough of the fluffy white stuff so there is a good base for Family Sledding Night.
The event, sponsored by the Primary School’s Shared Decision Making Team, will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Oxford Academy Football Field. (The actually sledding will take place not on the field itself, of course, but on the hill behind it.)
McDonald said he is looking forward to both the sledding and the chance to interact with students and their families. Building these relationships is important, he explained, because they help develop a sense of community at the school.
Hot chocolate will be provided, but participants should bring their own sleds. Sleds with metal runners will not be allowed, the building principal said, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
The Shared Decision Making Team does have a contingency plan in place just in case Mother Nature doesn’t grant McDonald’s wish: If there is not enough snow for sledding, they plan to show a movie instead.
