Survey says … Hamilton and Cazenovia play game to help others
HAMILTON – “On your marks, get set, let’s play HIGH SCHOOL FEUD!” Based on that popular game show of the 80’s, Family Feud, Hamilton High School accepts the challenge by Cazenovia High School for a fun spirited evening on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. that will raise money for two terrific causes. A snow date of Sunday, Feb. 14 is set. The teams will compete, guessing “to the best of their knowledge and wit” the top responses to the surveyed questions. Which team will emerge as the winner? Who will pass, play, steal or strike? The team that plays together – definitely wins together!
While this is an afternoon of fun games, the causes selected by both teams are heartwarming and completely unselfish. Hamilton High School is raising money for the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, a health center that helps children with life-threatening illnesses. Cazenovia High School is raising money to help the family of Taylor Matt, a senior battling Leukemia currently receiving care at Golisano. Morgan Christiansen, Cazenovia Junior PTSA, reports Cazenovia community has rallied to support many fund raising efforts to support the Matt family and Taylor’s battle with cancer.
“I was blown away by each school’s cause and the fact that they didn’t know what the other team had selected. Their causes connect the schools together with a common energy and enthusiasm that will benefit so many.” says Patricia von Mechow, Director of The Palace Theater and organizer of the event.
Feud For Thought, the Hamilton team is comprised of Kinnon Nolan-Finkle, Izzy Herold, Maria Vaughn, Andrew Powrie and Ben Yacavone. Team TayStrong, Cazenovia’s team consists of Maggie Conley, Ellen Burr, Max Whitaker, Gaevin Froio and Samantha Fox. David Schutt, Hamilton and Sam Whitaker, Cazenovia are the hosts for the night adding to the wild entertainment.
“Cazenovia is looking forward to a spirited competition against Hamilton. We hope to bring home the trophy!” says Matt Sattler, Cazenovia High PTSA Board Member.
The ticket sales will be split equally so each team will raise money for their cause. However, only one team will take home the trophy. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by contacting a high school student at either Hamilton or Cazenovia or by calling the Palace Theater, 315.824.1420. Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital will have a table with information and hand-outs as well as a representative to answer questions about their health facility. Oneida Savings Bank and M & M Press have stepped up to support the causes and will have a 30 second commercial (just like the television show) during the game to thank them for their generous donations.
The Palace Theater, a Performing Arts Center, is located at 19 Utica Street, in historic downtown Hamilton within easy walking distance of free parking, boutiques and casual dining. It presents live national theater, community events and is also a banquet hall. Visit www.palacetheater.org or call 824.1420 for more information.
