JOHNSON CITY – Johnson City’s Stacey Fox completed a 26-point night hitting two free throws in the waning seconds, as the Wildcats beat the Tornado in overtime Thursday.
Norwich (6-5), riding a three-game winning streak entering the contest, beat JC in a one-point thriller earlier this season, and had an opportunity in the last minute to either tie the game or snag the victory.
Hailey Dietrich apparently hit the tying free throw with ten seconds left in OT, but the point was disallowed due to a Tornado lane violation. On the ensuing inbounds play, Norwich forced a five-second violation to get the ball back under its basket. JC denied Norwich any shot at the basket forcing a turnover and leading to Fox’s insurance charity tosses.
“Both teams played their guts out tonight,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. “We came out really hot and took care of the ball. In the second quarter through the middle of the third quarter, we didn’t take care of the ball. After that, it was a backstreet brawl and a really physical game.”
Hannah Runyon led the Purple Tornado with 19 points, Bryn Loomis scored 13, and Tatyana Ithier tossed in 10 points.
