Four NHS wrestlers place at Marathon
MARATHON – Norwich brought an abbreviated lineup to the Marathon Tournament this past Saturday, and came home with three top-three finishes and two fifth-place grapplers.
First-year wrestler, Anthony Vitello, made his way to the finals where he placed second at 140 pounds. “He’s going to be a good one,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey. “He only knows two or three moves, but he does them well. He comes at you for six minutes and doesn’t quit.”
Jordan Lockwood (103) and Eli Oliver (145) each had third-place finishes, while Matt Thompson (130) and Walter Marvin (125) were fifth. “Overall, it was a real nice tournament for our guys to go to and gain some confidence,” Downey said. “It was a varsity tournament, and some of our guys beat some good wrestlers.”
Norwich hosts Sidney on Wednesday night, and will recognize its senior wrestlers before the start of the meet.
