Police charge corrections officer in four-car DWI accident
NORWICH – On Sunday, the Norwich Police arrested a corrections officer for being under the influence of alcohol after he lost control of his pick-up and careened into a group of parked vehicles as their owners attended a Super Bowl party at a residence on Plymouth Street.
Police charged 34-year-old Brian J. Loomis of Norwich with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He was later released on his own recognizance.
Police also confirmed that Loomis is a corrections officer for the New York State Department of Corrections at the Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County.
At about 7:05 p.m. Sunday, police said Loomis was heading north in his pick-up truck along Plymouth Street when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and veered to the right of the road, causing serious damage to three other unoccupied vehicles. Police said Loomis’ pick-up struck a parked car just off the street with such force that both vehicles were knocked into two other cars parked in the yard at 68 Plymouth St.
Emergency crews said each vehicle involved in the crash had extensive damage and all four had to be towed from the scene.
Police said Loomis refused a breath test at the scene and was issued an appearence ticket to appear in Norwich City Court on Feb. 11.
