Kelly named St. Patrick’s Day parade grand marshal

SHERBURNE – Local businessman and community supporter Shawn Kelly will lead the green as grand marshal of the St. Patrick’s Parade at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 7 in the Village of Sherburne.
Kelly has been a supporter of the Sherburne St. Patrick’s Day Parade since the event’s inception. “Our committee is very proud to have him lead our parade,” said Committee Coordinator Theresa Mastro.
The parade will start from the Sherburne Fire Station and proceed up North Main Street to the Cotton Mill parking lot. Following the spectacle of green, white and orange decorated participants, Glenravel, featuring Mike Carnrike, will perform at Fox Run Event Center, located on state Rt. 12B.
The list of participants includes four bagpipe groups: The Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band, The Hobart Pipe and Drum Band, the Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band and, new this year, The Mohawk Valley Frasers. Along with annual participants, the Claddagh Ring Dancers, audiences can look forward to the addition of the Johnston School of Irish Dance.
The 2009 parade boasted nearly 50 groups, but this year’s committee hopes to increase its size. “The organizers are working hard to keep this annual tradition going and we want to make it even more memorable than the previous parades,” said Mastro. To join the fun, call Mastro at 674-4573 or Kathy O’Connor at 674-9744. Last minute participants are welcome to join the line-up on the day of the parade.
Committee members are holding a raffle to support future parades. Tickets are available for purchase up until the day of the event, and a drawing for prizes will be held during the festivities at Fox Run Event Center.
The grand prize raffle winner will receive a handcrafted mirror from White House Cabinets. Some of the other prizes are: $100 and (2) $50 cash prizes, an Irish Basket of Cheer, a Seasons Gift Shop gift basket, a basket of Irish coffee mugs with coffee and tea, an Irish candy dish and Celtic mug, a Creative Memories scrapbook photo album, Hamilton Movie Theater movie passes, Cook’s Maple Syrup, an Irish Garden Stone, Avon bath products, a Cut Above professional hair care basket, and Pampered Chef products.
Gift certificates have been donated from the following businesses and organizations: ACT Physical Therapy, Judy’s Coffee Shop, Timekeepers Scrapbooking, Nina’s Restaurant, Hamilton Pizza Hut, Joe’s Pizzeria, Norwich Pizza Hut, Floral Fantasy, First Edition Bookstore, Colgate Bookstore, Taylor’s Country House, D & D Diner, East Street Edge, Huff Brau, Colgate Inn, Shear Looks, Hamilton McDonald’s, Hamilton Price Chopper, Gilligan’s Island, Kim’s Nails, Sherburne Big M, Skip’s Market, Stewart’s Shops, and the Plaide Palette.
