DVD Patrol
Ready, Patrollers?! The DVD Patrol salutes our great country this week because not only did we honor some Presidents this week but our great nation has just started the Winter Olympics up with our great neighbor to the North. Good Luck to all the athletes and your very own athlete of the Patrol, the Toddster, has been doing double duty checking out a lot of movies in the theater and DVDs too. More on that later. I hope everyone liked our Valentine’s Day Special last week. Time to get down to business!

Law Abiding Citizen - How far will someone go for Justice? In this new thriller, Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) loved his family very much until they were killed. It became his mission to avenge his family so he decided to go after the people who murdered them but was unsuccessful so now he’s in jail. Assistant District Attorney Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) has been assigned to his case. Shelton requests that the case of his family’s murderers be reopened but has been denied so he finds a way to strike against the people he’s after and the people who put him in jail. Can Rice protect himself and the ones he loves from Shelton before it’s too late? Foxx can currently be seen in the new comedy “Valentine’s Day” now in theaters and Butler will be back in action in “The Bounty Hunter” coming soon to theaters.
The Stepfather - Everyone would like their parents to find new love and they just have to find the right person. In this case, not so much. Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) has had family issues and was sent away to military school but is now returning home. When he gets there, he finds out that his mother (Sela Ward) has met a new guy named David Harris (Dylan Walsh) and she seems very happy with him. Michael is willing to give the guy a shot but too many weird things start to happen so he decides to dig a little deeper and finds out that David has a habit of moving from family to family and it doesn’t always turn out very good for the family. Will Michael be able to protect his family or will David be moving on again? Walsh is currently finishing up his time on the FX hit “Nip/Tuck” which can be seen on Tuesday nights at 10PM on the FX Network.

Couples Retreat - Everyone needs a vacation once and a while but check out the place before you leave. Dave (Vince Vaughn) really needed to get away from it all so he takes the wife (Malin Ackerman) along with some friends who find a really great vacation resort. There is only one catch. The resort is also a marriage retreat where couples take therapy sessions to try and make their relationships better. Dave only wants to have fun but the powers that be tell him if you don’t participate in therapy, you’ll have to leave. Dave gives it a shot with his friends and they find that their vacation may be worse than staying home. Are they going to be able to survive their trip to paradise? Vaughn has some great DVDs from the patrol vaults that include “Old School,” “Four Christmases” (with Resse Witherspoon), and “The Break Up” (with Jennifer Aniston).
The Time Traveler’s Wife - People who are married always have something in their relationship that might be hard so they have to find a way with live with it. This one might be a bit hard to deal with. Based on the best selling book, Henry always had trouble dealing with stress but the usual stress relievers don’t seem to work. He tends to disappear when things start to get tough because he has a condition that sends him traveling through time. On his journey, he meets Claire (Rachel McAdams). He falls for her instantly and meets up with her at different points from when she is a little girl right up to becoming an adult. No one said love was easy. Are Claire and Henry going to be able to find a way to make their relationship work with his time hopping? McAdams has a new one on the way called “Morning Glory” where she plays a news show producer who is trying to save a talk show in danger of being cancelled coming to theaters later this year.
Stargate Universe - The next installment in the Stargate franchise comes to the Patrol with Volume 1. Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) leads a new team through the Stargate. In the Pilot Episode, Rush and his team are trying to find a new way to use the Stargate and just when they think they have found a breakthrough, their base gets attacked. The only way to survive is to use their experiment on the Gate and hope that it sends them somewhere safe. They end up on an ancient ship called the Destiny. Rush and his team must find a way to bring the ship under control for their survival. Will they do it? Check off April 2 on your calendars when Stargate Universe returns for all new episodes on Fridays at 10 p.m. on the Syfy Channel.
Before we go, The Toddster has been pretty busy checking out some movies in the theater including “Edge of Darkness” (with Mel Gibson), “From Paris With Love’” (starring John Travolta), “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” (with Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman), and “The Wolfman” (starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins). I highly recommend all of them except for “Edge of Darkness.” I expected more from Gibson and the story was hard to follow at times. Go see it for yourself and you be the judge. More DVDs on the way for next week. The Patrol shall return.
