Irish Tenors bring ‘Druid’ to Norwich March 4
NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts, Norwich, announces the return of The Three Irish Tenors in their new production entitled DRUID, on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Martin W. Kappel Theater, 27 West Main Street.
Executive Director Victoria Kappel says, “Last year we polled our audience members to find out their favorite performers of the last 10 years. The Three Irish Tenors won by a huge margin and we are thrilled to bring them back to Chenango County!”
The company size has been increased, with 3 additional singers – two more “Tenors” and a female vocalist. Eighteen months in development, DRUID uses the contributions of some of Ireland’s finest talents to bring audiences the fresh, new and exciting sound of today’s Ireland.
DRUID vibrantly captures the essence of the modern Irish spirit. Through the years, Ireland’s people have spread their wings far beyond their island shores, influencing, enrapturing, and changing countless individuals and societies across the globe. DRUID is a salute to their Irishness and to all who have kept this core and substance alive wherever they may dwell.
DRUID summons its audience along a musical journey, emerging from the haze of Ireland’s pre-Christian times, traveling the paths of oppression, famine, emigration, on to the “Celtic Tiger” economy, and finally resting on the hopes of the future. It is a celebration of passion for life: an epic tale of mankind’s determination and ability to shine ever brighter in the face of strife and misfortune.
The performers in DRUID each possess an exceptional talent, ranging in scope from Irish traditional to ballad to pop to classical. Brought together, they form a cohesive musical and vocal unit that is mesmerizing and uplifting, a unique concert experience that is as much Irish as it is Global.
This performance of DRUID is sponsored by The Raymond Foundation, Sidney Federal Credit Union and the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. Tickets are $25, with discounts for seniors and members of the Council. 18 and under are $10.
DRUID is the fourth offering in the CCCA’s People’s Choice Season. The final performance is scheduled for May 7 when Tom Chapin and Friends take the stage. A Chamber Music Series begins February 20 with the Manhattan String Quartet and continues on March 7 with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet and March 21 with the Star Trio.
