OXFORD – A Town of Oxford plow truck was seriously damaged Tuesday after its blade got caught on a raised section of a bridge, causing it to crash into a nearby guardrail and roll over.

Town of Oxford Superintendent of Highway Timothy Tefft said the 2005 10-wheel International truck suffered significant damage and may have to be scrapped pending a consultation with the municipality’s insurance carrier.

He also reported that the driver, a 36-year veteran of the town’s highway department, was not seriously injured. “Shaken up, banged around, but he’s not too bad off, considering,” said Tefft.

Tefft said he couldn’t recall what the town paid for the truck, but said a similar one purchased in 2009 cost about $191,000.

Town Supervisor Lawrence Wilcox said the incident was “in no way the fault of the operator.” He said the town’s insurance policy would cover the cost of replacing or repairing the truck.
