DVD Patrol

The Patrol is on, People! The DVD Patrol staff have been secretly working around the clock on planning something for your pal, the Toddster, because I am a year older this week. (How old we don’t want to know. Hey, the Toddster is a sensitive guy.) We’ve still got a job to do and have some good ones coming out this week including some news about a certain blue skinned guy that has been a hit in theaters. More on that later. Let’s see what we’ve got!

New on DVD

The Informant - Could you imagine if Secret Agent James Bond wasn’t as good at his job as everyone knows he is? In this case, Mark Whitacre (Matt Damon) definitely fits in that category. Mark works for a big agriculture company and becomes aware of some serious price fixing. Deciding to do something about it, Mark reports them to the FBI and volunteers to blow the whistle on them. Thinking he’ll be a big hero, Mark’s ego starts to go out of control. To make matters even worse, the agents soon discover that Mark may not be all he says he is. What will they find and how will things turn out for Mark? Damon has a new action thriller on the way with the makers of the Bourne trilogy coming to theaters called “Green Zone.”

Cirque De Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant - The things that people will do to get a job these days. Based on the best selling books, Darren (Chris Massoglia) has a pretty good life going to school and trying to do all the things that a 16 year old does. That is until he meets the folks at Cirque De Freak. A circus with some colorful characters. One of them is Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly). Larten has some unique talents and what makes him so special is he happens to be a vampire. Darren finds out about him and wants to become one too. Larten helps him and Darren finds that he has just been put into the middle of a fight with two groups of vampires who’re about to use Darren’s hometown as a battleground. Can Darren find a way to keep the townspeople safe and keep the Vampires from destroying everything? Reilly has some really great DVDs in stores now including “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” (with Will Farrell), “Step Brothers” (also starring Farrell), and “Boogie Nights.”

Also on DVD

The Box - Life is always full of sacrifices. What if that sacrifice involved something that you wouldn’t normally do? Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur Lewis (James Marsden) were doing everything they could to make ends meet but it doesn’t seem enough. Their lives change when a mysterious man (Frank Langella) makes them an offer they shouldn’t refuse. They will be given $1 million if they hold onto a strange box. The only catch is if they say yes, someone in the world will have to die. They make the wrong choice and something bad will happen to them. Can Norma and Arthur make the right choice that won’t cost them what they hold dear? Diaz is getting ready to team up with Tom Cruise for a new summer thriller in “Night and Day” coming to theaters in July.

Sorority Row - Going to college is about starting a new phase in your life and a big thing would be joining a group or in this case a sorority, a young group of girls who do everything together decide to play a trick on one of their sisters. Tricks also have a nasty habit of turning out wrong and she ends up dead. The ones that are left say they will never speak of it again. After some time has passed, that might not save them since someone has come into town and is aware of what they did. Now they are being killed one by one. Can the remaining sisters find a way to stop the killer? Another really great series along these same lines is the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” trilogy with Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer) available in stores everywhere.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths - Cartoon Spotlight has an all new one for cartoon fans and this is the one the Toddster has been waiting for. Superman (Mark Harmon), Batman (William Baldwin), and the rest of the team are back in an all new adventure. They say we all have a twin in the World. How about twins from another world? Lex Luthor has come from another Earth asking the Justice League for help in dealing with a team of super criminals called the Crime Syndicate. The thing is these criminals are evil versions of the League and are as powerful as they are. Can the team find a way of defeating an enemy they know as well as themselves? The Toddster also recommends “Green Lantern: First Flight,” “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies,” and “Superman: Doomsday” all in stores now.

A little bit of everything for you on this one. Before we go, the movie that everyone has been raving about is finally coming to DVD. The Toddster has confirmed that “Avatar” will coming to stores on April 22 and will featured in a future patrol. I haven’t seen yet, but I’ve received mixed reviews about it. Wait and see!
