Local athletes to compete in NSIC
NEW YORK – A number of local athletes will participate in the 2010 National Scholastic Indoor Championships (NSIC) at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York City March 12-14.
Greene junior Chad Noelle, third in the state in the 1,600 meters at last weekend’s New York State Indoor Track and Field meet, is among the top area competitors. Also slated is Section IV 3,200-meter champion Chris Burnett of B-G/Afton.
Norwich eighth-grader, Matt Murray, made the national cut-off time in the 400-meters, and will also compete. Murray earned the national standard time during this past season, said Norwich coach Shaun Horan. “The championship is open to all high school athletes across the country,” Horan said. “Matt’s event is offered to only seventh-and eighth-grade boys and girls.”
Over 2,700 athletes are expected to attend the national meet. More information about the meet and a complete list of competitors is available on the NSIC website at www.nsictf.org/.
