15 Norwich teachers told jobs in jeopardy

NORWICH – Superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan confirmed Monday that a total of 13 full-time teachers and two part-time teachers had been informed on Friday that their positions were being “seriously considered for elimination.”

“Nothing is final until the board approves the budget,” said O’Sullivan, who explained that the notifications were made out of consideration for the staff members who could be affected. The superintendent said he didn’t want any to be “blindsided” by the news when the topic was discussed at a future board meeting.

According to the administrator, the positions identified were based on seniority and the teachers who were told their jobs could be eliminated were those with the least seniority in each tenure area.
