BAINBRIDGE – Down four runs after two innings, Unatego’s offense began to click, in large part due to B-G’s battles with pitching wildness.
The Bobcats issued nine base on balls during the contest, said head coach Pete Mansheffer, and six of those free passes led to runs. “They also had some key hits with runners in scoring position,” Mansheffer said.
Dillon Maxson led Unatego with three hits, two RBI and two stolen bases.
The Bobcats’ defeat spoiled a career day from lefty Eric Oefelein. Oefelein had three hits including two solo homers and a double finishing with two runs scored and two RBI.

AFTON – In an early-season rematch of last season’s MAC Championship game, Greene overcame early fielding difficulties to edge the defending league champions.
Rebecca Hanrahan had 12 strikeouts and allowed just a single hit to Afton’s Stephanie Sherman in the third inning. Afton eighth-grader, Payton Cutting, was nearly as good as Hanrahan pitching six strong innings giving up four hits, four runs, while striking out seven.
“The early innings we were really sloppy, but we tightened up over the last three innings and made some nice plays,” said Greene coach Rick Smith.
Hanrahan had an RBI and a double for the Trojans (2-0), who took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the sixth. “Last year we started with two tough losses, and this year we’re 2-0,” Smith said. “It feels good to see where we are because we have some new players in new positions.”
The loss for Afton was its second in as many games. Last week, the Knights were edged by Sidney, 6-5. “You know Afton will hit its stride and be there at the end (of the season),” Smith said. “That’s what we’re hoping to do.”
