Chrystie wins academic award

ONEONTA– SUNY Oneonta senior Sara Chrystie (Oxford/Oxford Academy) earned a three-peat of her own last Wednesday, March 31 when SUNYAC Commissioner, Pat Damore, announced the recipients of the conference Chancellor’s Awards for the winter season. Chrystie, who recently completed her final season of basketball for the Red Dragons, was this year’s honoree in the sport of women’s basketball for a third consecutive year, the first female of a team sport to accomplish the feat.
Chrystie is the second team-sport athlete to earn the SUNYAC Chancellor’s Award three times for one sport.  Previous to Chrystie, Scott Morton of Geneseo had won the award three straight years in men’s basketball.
The SUNYAC Chancellor’s Award is given each year to the athlete with the highest GPA on either the first or second All-Conference team over three semesters based on the All-Academic team and Commissioner’s list.  
Earlier this semester, Chrystie was honored for her academics with her selection to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District One team for a second straight year. This year she was a second team selection after being a third team selection in 2009.
Chrystie, who was a first team All-SUNYAC selection this year, started all 27 games for the 17-10 Red Dragons and averaged 6.9 points per game. She led the team with 132 assists and was second with 39 steals. She was leading NCAA Division III players in assist-to-turnover ratio entering the SUNYAC tournament. She finished at an even 3.0 assists to every one turnover.
Career-wise, Chrystie played in 108 games, starting 81 of them, and helped lead the team to a cumulative 71-37 record that included four straight SUNYAC tournament appearances. She scored 886 points and grabbed 453 rebounds while dishing of 445 assists and collecting 179 steals.  She will graduate second all-time in assists while being tied for sixth all-time in steals. She is a career 70 percent free throw shooter and averaged 30 minutes per game.
