EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House Arts Center opens a new exhibit “Parting of the Ways” by Sethsasek Boonchai in the East Gallery on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. with refreshments and a chance to hear more about the work from the artist. While Boonchai creates images that speak to the former glory of the places photographed, viewers are called to meditate on the images and on the transience of man.
Boonchai of Brooklyn has his M.F.A. in Painting and Photography from the University of New Orleans. He is on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts in New York.
Also on exhibit is “Flower Power: Kate Stillwaggon Paints” in the Arts Café Gallery. Kate Stillwaggon will be 89 years old this spring: “About 30 years ago I started sketching and painting. Art is my blessing and my salvation.”
In contrast, TeensART 2010 in the West Gallery explores the beginnings of art in the lives of over 250 young artists with works of all media from these area schools: Cazenovia Junior/Senior High School, Chittenango High School, Hamilton Junior-Senior High School, Mount Markham Central School, New Life Christian School, Norwich High School, Sherburne- Earlville High School, Unadilla Valley Middle & High School, and Waterville Middle & High School.. The community is invited to attend the opening receptions of Seth Boonchai’s work and TeensART, on April 10 from noon to 4 p.m. with refreshments (free). The exhibits will run through May 15. A closing reception with Kate Stillwaggon will be on Saturday, May 8 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
