Chenango United Way completes needs assessment
NORWICH – The Chenango United Way announced this week the completion of its Community Needs Assessment study, and has made the information available to those interested on its website.
Partnered with Colgate University’s Upstate Institute, the local United Way sought to locate trends in local needs as compared with the 2005 assessment, according to United Way Executive Director and Chief Professional Officer Elizabeth Monaco.
“This helps us to develop priorities and plans to guide our efforts and direction over the next several years,” said Monaco. “We were curious to see if the local priorities aligned with national goals, which they did.”
Nationally, income, education and health constitute the main focus areas, reported Monaco, who added that the Chenango United Way had “outlined each of these areas with data, not necessarily in a positive or negative sense, but by significance, whether good or bad.”
Access to healthcare, opportunities for children and youth, financial stability and self sufficiency and the aging of the population remained the local focus areas, said Monaco.
“Our fall application process for funding will be based around these goals, and any community impact initiatives will be guided by this,” said Monaco. “In 2018, the United Way of America will assess how local United Ways have progressed towards the national goals and decide if any measurable change has occurred.”
Monaco said she hoped that community groups and organizations seeking more information on local data would contact the Chenango United Way, and stressed the potential gains for all involved.
“Basically, the needs assessment is a valuable tool for the entire community, not just the United Way,” said Monaco. “It’s an extremely valuable resource.”
