NORWICH – Norwich cooked up seven errors, and combined with Owego’s hot hitting, it was not a recipe for success on the Purple’s side of the diamond Monday.
“They came right out and opened with three hits...they had a lot of hot bats at the top of the order,” said Norwich coach John Martinson.
Steve Yanchus, Taylor Woloch, and Jim Peacock had the early hits, Peacock’s driving in the first run of the game. Yanchus also homered in the game, and Woloch along with Peacock also had two hits.
Jake Shelly went five innings giving up two Norwich runs for the victory.
Nick McCullough went 2-for-3 on the Norwich side with one RBI and one run scored.
Norwich plays at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oneonta.

NORWICH – Brittany Rando hit a two-run triple in the top of the seventh to top off Owego’s three-run inning in a win at Norwich Monday night.
Norwich clung to within three runs entering the sixth inning. Owego scored all but two of its runs over the final three innings to pull away. “It was tight going into the sixth, and they had some good hits in the seventh to add to their score, otherwise we’re looking at a closer game,” said Norwich coach Dennis Eaton. “Honestly, our defense was not as good tonight as it was in the first three games.”
Norwich’s lone run came in the bottom of the third. Megan McAvoy’s basehit scored Rhea French to make it a 2-1 game. McAvoy was the lone Tornado hitter with two hits.
Norwich hosts its own tournament Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m. Whitney Point will face G-MU, while Norwich will entertain Nightengale-Bamford of Manhattan. The consolation game is slated for 1 p.m. with the championship game to follow.
