City police promote Berry

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department has announced the appointment of Craig L. Berry to the rank of Sergeant of Police. The appointment took place during a brief ceremony at the city council meeting held Wednesday at One Court Plaza. President of the Council Terry Bresina and Chief of Police Joseph Angelino bestowed the rank upon Sergeant Berry in front of the Common Council with several police officers and well wishers in attendance. The title will take effect on April 21.
“Sergeant Berry is heavily relied upon in several areas of operation at the station. He is responsible for the maintenance of our internal computer system and is a recognized expert in auto accident reconstruction,” said Angelino.
Berry joined the Norwich police force in March of 1991.
Berry has been the subject of numerous letters of commendation during his career from within the department and also from the public at large. In October of 1999, Sergeant Berry was awarded the “Police Achievement Medal” for his efforts in ensuring the police department’s records management system was Y2K compliant and for his work setting up a computer network for the entire police department.
Berry is married to the former Melissa Morano and they reside in Norwich.
