Cooperstown 11, Sherburne-Earlville 2
SHERBURNE – For the second straight game, Sherburne-Earlville found itself on the wrong side of a triple play as Cooperstown cruised past the Marauders Wednesday.
Similar to the triple play in Monday’s loss, S-E’s attempted bunt with runners on first and second was scooped by Cooperstown’s pitcher (Jared Hotaling) for the first out. The runners on second and first also failed to get back to the bag safely as outs two and three were subsequently recorded.
Cooperstown’s offense had little trouble putting runs on the boad over the first four innings. A misplayed flyball in the fourth inning with the bases loaded scored three runs. Hotaling added a two-run homer, and Kyle Liner had three hits for Cooperstown.
“It was really windy today, and we probably had four or five misplays in the outfield that cost us five runs,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.
Jake Bohnert had three hits for S-E and Carter Cole finished with two hits.

Drummond went 4-for-5 with two RBI, and Kelly had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored. “It was a really good game for five innings,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “Both teams were making plays and each catcher threw out two runs. The wheels kind of fell off for us in the sixth.”
Derrick Head doubled twice for Oxford finishing his day 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Krys Escobar added two hits for Oxford, who play at Hancock today.

Cooperstown 7, S-E 0
SHERBURNE – Cooperstown capitalized on S-E’s mistakes in the second and third innings scoring all of its runs on just one hit during those innings.
S-E committed all six of its errors during a four-run second and a three-run third inning. “I was a combination of mistakes, and we just fell apart (defensively) for two innings,” said S-E coach Michelle Parker.
Sherburne-Earlville threatened to score in the fourth and sixth loading the bases in each inning, but failing to push across a run. “We’re just a little hesitant with our bats,” Parker said.

Susquehanna Valley 2, Norwich 1
CONKLIN – Norwich crept closer to its first STAC win this season.
Sus Valley answered Norwich’s run in the fifth with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to edge past NHS. It was the second one-run win for the Sabers over the Tornado this season.
Elizabeth Knight led off the fifth for SV with a hit, and she moved around to score after an error. A passed ball scored the Sabers’ second run. “It was a good game all around for us, we just need to eliminate the errors,” said Norwich coach Dennis Eaton. “We had the lead for the first time in a STAC game this season and Jamie (Berger) pitched a great game. To have a one-hitter against Sus Valley is something to be proud of.”
Skye Ingraham was 3-for-3 with a run scored for Norwich, and Berger was credited with NHS’s lone RBI. Berger, in addition to allowing just one hit, had five strikeouts and one walk in her best performance this season.

OTEGO – Rebecca Hanrahan passed 400 strikeouts for her varsity career, and pitched her eighth shutout this season as the Trojans blanked Unatego Wednesday.
Brittany Youngs supplied the early offense with a two-run single in the first, and she finished with three RBI. Caitlin Willis tacked on a two-run single in the third to help build the advantage to 8-0.
“Early in the season, we weren’t scoring runs until the fourth or fifth inning,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “The last few games, we’ve been jumping on pitchers early and building a lead. To get up early with Becca on the mound, it changes the mentality of the game.”
Hanrahan finished with 12 strikeouts to give her 409 on her career. She added two hits and three runs scored in the win.
