DVD Patrol
Get Ready, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is getting suited up for summer movie season and this is our favorite time of year. The guy in charge, the Toddster, has been pretty busy seeing movies in the theater and we have some special columns coming up in the next few weeks. More on that later. If you can’t get out, we’ve found some good DVDs in our travels. Time to take a look!

Tooth Fairy - Everyone knows that sports these days can be pretty intense and players are always getting drafted all the time. Just ask Derek Thompson (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). Thompson is one of the best Hockey players but he’s also one of the most unfriendly ones too. When a fan of his comes to him and wants an autograph, he gets turned down. The Star player is about to get drafted for an all new sport. The Mother of all Tooth Fairies (Julie Andrews) decides that Derek needs a lesson in humility and decides to give him some wings to teach him some manners. Will the hockey player who’s used to knocking teeth out find a new way to play? Johnson is a busy guy with a couple of upcoming projects including “The Other Guys” with Will Farrell and a new action thriller called “Faster” coming to theaters later this year.
Leap Year - Traditions always have a way of changing from year to year. It used to be tradition where the guy asked for the ladies’ hand in marriage. Anna (Amy Adams) has decided to do things her way. When she thinks Jeremy (Adam Scott) is about to pop the question, Anna is told that he has to leave for Ireland for work. Later, Anna hears about a leap year rule that in Ireland if you ask for someone’s hand in marriage, you have to say yes. Thinking she’s going to get her man, Anna touches down in the Irish countryside only to find that she has lost her means of transport. Enter Declan (Matthew Goode). Declan agrees to give her a ride so she can complete her mission. During the journey, Declan gets to know her and Anna’s feelings start to change. Is Anna going to ask Jeremy to get married or will she remain with Declan? My sources tell me that Adams might be involved with a sequel to the Disney Smash “Enchanted.” More on this as it develops.

Tenderness - Russell Crowe stars in this crime solver to see how far one will go to prove they’re right. The only problem that Eric Komenko (Jon Foster) has is he likes to kill people but only when he’s forced. Eric’s mother finds about her son’s after-school activities and Eric has had enough with her. Complicating matters even more is the discovery of a girl hiding in his truck (Sophie Traub) and she has as many problems as Eric does. Lt. Christofauro (Crowe) is put on the case and soon discovers that the more he digs into the case, Eric might seem to be just in what he does but the cop on the case still has to bring him down. Can Christofauro do his job and get his man? Crowe teams with Director Ridley Scott (Gladiator) for an action movie for their rendition of “Robin Hood” coming to theaters on May 14.
The Jackal - The Patrol has a new feature starting this week as we bring you Blu-Ray Spotlight. This is where an older movie that we’ve profiled before finally comes to Blu-ray for the first time. Carter Preston (Sidney Poitier) works with Russian Intelligence to bring down a leading figure in the Russian mob. When the bosses’ brother becomes aware of the situation, he hires an assassin called the Jackal (Bruce Willis) to make a statement and targets someone in the American Government to die. The only way to stop him is to get Declan Mulqueen (Richard Gere) out of jail since he’s the only one who has ever seen the Jackal’s real face. Can they find the Jackal before he completes his mission? Willis can be seen in theaters in “Copout” and will be making an appearance with Stallone in “The Expendables” due out in August.
The Toddster has been busy seeing movies and in the next few weeks we’ll have a complete rundown of our movies in theaters including “Iron Man 2” out today. Also, the patrol crew and I will be here with our favorite Super Hero movies coming in future patrols. When will they be here? You’ll have to come on back to find out. The Toddster will be back.
