Norwich 4, Oneonta 3
NORWICH – Norwich’s Nate Perry, teaming with Sal Cole at second doubles, picked up his first win of the season – and Norwich’s decisive team point – in a victory over Oneonta Tuesday.
Perry, who had six three-set tiebreaker losses during the season, made the seventh tiebreaker a charm. He and Cole came back from a first-set loss to beat McKenna Rowe and Ben Coe, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. Shames Harper, Norwich’s lone senior, paired with Brian Carson for a victory at third doubles.
“It was a nice way to end the regular season,” said Norwich coach John Stewart of his team’s third win this season. “It felt good for Shames, and it felt good for Nate.”
Norwich also grabbed wins from Roman Cwynar at third singles and Colin Stewart at fourth singles. “In my first 18 years of coaching, I could count on one hand how many times it came down to the last match for the fourth team point,” Stewart said. “It has happened more times this season than any of the previous 18.”
All of Norwich’s wins this season have been by 4-3 counts, and it has a 3-3 record in 4-3 outcomes this season.

Track and Field

Norwich 93, Johnson City 48 (boys)
Norwich 88, Johnson City 51 (girls)
NORWICH – Norwich first-year hurdler, Jon Foulds, broke a near 20-year school record in the 400-meter hurdles as Norwich won its fifth dual meet out of six this season.
Foulds eclipsed the mark of Pat Livingston timing 59.0 seconds, his first sub-minute time. “I’ve been coaching track for 10 years, and I have not seen anyone pick up hurdling technique as quickly as Jon did,” said Norwich coach Paul Sims. “This time puts him in a legitimate position to go much farther this season.”
Norwich’s Max Morse also earned all-division status with his unbeaten run in the pole vault this season. Morse cleared 11-6 to earn the victory for Norwich.
Patrick Taylor captured three field events taking the long jump (20-10), high jump (5-6), and triple jump (40-3 3/4). Taylor is Norwich’s top individual points scorer this season.
On the girls’ side, Norwich’s 400-meter relay team of Katie Benenati, Elisha Eddy, Cleo Daoud, and Sarah Bonnell finished unbeaten in dual meets this season, and wound up 21-1 in dual meets over the past four seasons. Sims said the quartet’s only division loss came after mishandling a baton exchange at an away meet.
Bonnell earned all-division status in the 100 meters, long jump, and triple jump after wins Tuesday, and Eddy was a winner in the shot put to claim division honors.
Norwich travels to Bainbridge-Guilford on Saturday in its last competition of the regular season.
