Brown helps HCC to national title

HERKIMER – Herkimer County Community College’s track & field team recently won the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Track & Field Championship in Columbia, Maryland.
The women’s team ended the three-day competition scoring 112.5 points to edge runner-up Mohawk Valley by 2 1/2 points. It was the second national title in three years for the HCC women’s team.
Eleven women competed for the Generals including freshman Amanda Brown, a 2009 graduate of Oxford Academy. Brown competed on HCC’s 400-meter relay team, and was a second team all-American team.
Brown is Oxford Academy’s school record-holder in the long jump, and was part of the Blackhawks’ 400-meter state championship relay team last spring along with Amanda Marks, Katie Woodford, and Emily Woodford.
