Texas based company offers services for oil and natural gas industry

NORWICH – While the debate over natural gas drilling in Chenango County wages on, Right of Way Land Servicing, a provider of energy related services for the oil and gas industry, has found a thriving local market for its mapping, leasing and seismic permitting, and testing services.
The Fort Hood, Texas-based company is currently working on projects with Green World Geophysical and Norse Energy, utilizing the “most technologically advanced form of seismic mapping available,” as it concerns oil and natural gas reserves, according to Bill Sedwick, Right of Way Land Servicing supervisor.
“We’re using cutting edge technology, a totally wireless system which is new to the industry and was developed by Right of Way and Green World,” stated Sedwick, who added the new system is “more environmentally-friendly than conventional seismic testing.”
The technology, utilizing wireless ground phones, is similar to a sonogram in that an energy source is sent underground which reflects off, and gives a reading of, formations below the surface.
In addition, Right of Way works with landowners to make sure they’re aware of each phase of the seismic testing, addressing any concerns and making sure in the unlikely event that damage occurs that it’s handled properly.
“What Norse wants to do, and what we do, is insure the least amount of invasion environmentally,” Sedwick added.
By renting area homes for workers, buying equipment and hiring locally, Sedwick said he believed Right of Way has had a positive impact on the local economy, and added that “once this (gas drilling) opens up, what we’ve done in a small portion will be greatly increased” as companies will continue “hiring and buying locally.”
“We’ve received a very gracious and warm welcome here, very hospitable and extremely enjoyable,” said Sedwick. “We’re looking at having a long relationship here and we really want to be active in the community and do our part.”
