Vikings rally for third straight win

Otselic Valley 11, DeRuyter 10
DERUYTER – Otselic Valley scored four times in the top of the seventh rallying for its third straight win on Monday at DeRuyter.
Trevor Marston’s doubled and scored on Adam Monroe’s single to tie the game. Monroe came home with the winning run on a fielder’s choice. DeRuyter’s defense committed three errors in the last inning the help the OV cause.
“We couldn’t do much of anything right most of the game,” said OV coach Dave Loomis, whose club had seven errors through the first five innings. “We kind of got things going in our favor later in the game, and they came apart.”
Marston and Chuckie Bishop had two RBI for OV (6-8), and Marston had two hits.
Zach Thomas was 3-for-5 with four RBI on the DeRuyter side.

Windsor 11, Norwich 0
WINDSOR – David Barton held Norwich’s bats in check pitching a two-hit shutout victory on Monday.
Barton fanned 10 Norwich batters – nine swinging – and walked just one. “He was pounding the strike zone and getting ahead of the hitters,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “He had great location with his pitches, and we had a hard time catching up.”
Nick Benson had two hits for Windsor including a double. David Goetz also had two hits in the win.
Norwich plays at Owego today and hosts Sidney in a non-league game on Thursday.

Afton 16, G-MU 6
AFTON – After toiling below the .500 mark much of this season, Afton wrapped up the regular season with a winning record downing G-MU Monday in a non-league matchup.
The Crimson Knights’ Paul Hamilton was 3-for-5 with four RBI, and Corey Mohrein along with Dylan Wilson had perfect 4-for-4 days. On the day, Afton rapped a season-best 17 hits against three G-MU pitchers. “Our bats definitely came alive, and we were stinging the ball all over,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp, whose club improved its record to 9-8. “We haven’t had a day like this all season. We were definitely in for a breakout game.”
Mike Muller pitched five innings giving up three runs for the victory.
Alex Schmidt and Brendan Zucchi had two hits apiece for G-MU, who have dropped three straight games.

Owego 15, Norwich 0 (5 innings)
OWEGO – Owego handed Norwich its most lopsided loss this season as Emily Warfle pitched a no-hitter striking out eight and walking two on Monday.
The Indians’ bats banged out 15 hits, and the host club started the contest with a half-dozen runs in the first and second innings. “They came right out of the gates and hit the ball well,” said Norwich coach Dennis Eaton. “No excuses, they played well and their defense made the plays. We ran into a better team today.”
Alanna Jenkins was 3-for-4 with two runs to pace Owego, and Kate Silvanic was 3-for-3.
Norwich hosts Sidney on Thursday.

Chenango Forks 2, Greene 1
CHENANGO FORKS – Chenango Forks scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to deal Greene just its second loss of the season in a non-league game Monday.
Alyssa Hawras led off the last of the seventh with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and put herself 60 feet from the winning run after a passed ball. Kali Aswad’s single to right plated Hawras with the winner.
“I was really hoping to pick up the sectional points (by beating a bigger school),” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “It would have been nice to get the win, but they made every play in the field.”
Rebecca Hanrahan hit a solo homer, her ninth round-tripper of the season for Greene’s only run. Hanrahan tripled in the seventh with one out, but was stranded after back-to-back outs. Greene’s Steph Stahl doubled and reached third with one out earlier in the game, but was stranded on base as well.
Greene meets Afton in the Midstate Athletic Conference championship game Wednesday at Afton High School. The Knights beat the Trojans in last year’s league championship game.

G-MU 22, Franklin 8
FRANKLIN – G-MU forced a three-way tie for first with Franklin and Edmeston in Tri-Valley League Division One play with a convincing win on Monday night.
The Raiders (8-6), winners of two straight, opened the game with 14 runs as Franklin switched pitchers three times during the inning. G-MU’s batters drew six walks, were hit by a pitch three times, and Logan Eltz smacked the biggest hit of the inning driving in two with a triple.
“This was a huge win for us, and if we win out, we either tie or win the division title,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole, whose club plays a doubleheader against Laurens on Wednesday.
Eltz finished 3-for-5 with four runs scored and five RBI, Kat Card had three hits and five RBI, and Katie Bakhuizen had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Jessica Terrano had two hits, one of those a home run, to lead Franklin.

SHERBURNE – Bainbridge-Guilford scored 16 of its runs in the fourth through sixth innings capitalizing on S-E’s shaky defense in Monday’s non-league game.
The Marauders finished with 16 errors, easily the most in any game this season. “Cori (Bergeron) did a nice job of pitching today, we just made a lot of errors behind her,” said S-E coach Michelle Parker. “We just hit a brick wall (in the fourth inning), and (B-G) took over.”
Caiti Anderson was 3-for-5 for B-G with a triple and an RBI. Kate Werth and Amanda Williams had two hits.
Allison Hicks went 3-for-4 and drove in three to lead S-E, who host Sauquoit Valley Wednesday.

Boys’ Tennis

Bainbridge-Guilford 3, Walton 2
BAINBRIDGE – B-G avenged an early-season loss to Walton, and finishes the 2010 season with at least one win over every MAC division opponent this season.
B-G’s Lennart Seidel completed a perfect 12-0 regular season taking a 6-0, 6-1 win over Matt Bartlett at first singles. Michael Mertz narrowly edged Chris Ogden at second singles, 7-5, 7-5, and Kyle Werth completed a sweep of the three singles matches topping Dakota Gray, 6-0, 6-0.
The Bobcats compete in the Class C-D East Tournament Thursday at SUNY Delhi.
