Hospital welcomes new women’s health specialist

NORWICH – Chenango Memorial’s Women’s Health Center has added a new OB/GYN physician, Fons Alex Amaye-Obu, MD, MSCI, MPH, FACOG. He comes to Chenango Memorial from Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY. In addition to general obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Amaye-Obu has clinical fellowship training in urogynecology and pelvic surgery and advanced training in gynecologic endoscopic and laser surgery.
“Dr. Amaye-Obu’s experience and training in these areas bring additional women’s health services to Chenango Memorial,” stated Dr. Michael Trevisani, the hospital’s Vice President Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Officer. “Local women will benefit from having a specialist in women’s bladder control issues and pelvic floor disorders right here at Chenango Memorial.”
Dr. Timothy Corey, Obstetrician/Gynecologist and Medical Director of the Women’s Health Center added, “Our patients and staff are enjoying Dr. Amaye-Obu’s professional and engaging practice style. “
Dr. Amaye-Obu earned his medical degree at University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed an internship at Wayne State University School of Medicine - Detroit Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan, and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital - Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn. He had clinical fellowship training in urogynecology and pelvic surgery at University of Toronto, Canada and is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a fellow of The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Amaye-Obu’s background includes much clinical research and many presentations on urogynecology as well as positions as a clinical instructor, professor, and adjunct clinical assistant professor at several medical schools. He also has practiced as an attending physician in New York State, Ohio, Michigan, and Oklahoma. He is the recipient of the 1999 Presidential First Prize research competition for fellows and residents in Canada and USA of the Society of Gynecological Surgeons.
