SHERBURNE – Derrick Ferris pitched his first career shutout leading Sherburne-Earlville in its victory over Morrisville-Eaton Tuesday.
Ferris had four strikeouts, one walk, and gave up just four hits. He was backed by strong defense that committed just a single error. “The infield played really well, I bet we had 15 groundball outs,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks.
S-E doubled its lead from two to four with a two-run sixth. Joe Moses doubled to start the inning, and he scored on a Jobie Gage triple. Gage came in on Tad Mapes’ single.
Moses was a perfect 3-for-3, Ferris was 2-for-2, and Gage had two hits in three at-bats.

Greene 7, Hancock 5
GREENE – Greene erased a three-run deficit to Hancock, and ended a seven-game losing streak on Tuesday night.
The Trojans snatched the lead with four runs in the third inning. Nate Patrick and Matt Jones had RBI hits, and Brendan Kinne knocked in two with a double.
“Going into sectionals we had to start coming through and not just be close,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “In their last home game, all of the seniors stepped up and did something to contribute tonight.”
Senior Scott Gorton pitched four innings for the win, and Kinne logged three scoreless, hitless innings for the save.
Jones was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Kinee had the two aforementioned RBI. “To be down early, it was nice to come back and win a game when we really needed it,” Gorton said.
Greene (8-9) is idle until the Section IV, Class C playoffs begin later this month
