G-MU clinches division title
G-MU 12-2, Laurens 2-0 (5 innings)
LAURENS – G-MU swept a doubleheader from Laurens Wednesday, and in the process clinched the Tri-Valley League West Division championship.
The Raiders (8-2, 11-4) finished off the sweep as DeMario Reed, Jon Scofield, and Andrew Delmar combined on a two-hit shutout. G-MU meets either Cherry Valley-Sprinfield or Milford in the title game Friday at 5 p.m. at Oneonta State.
“We did some good stuff today,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “Andrew picked off two runners in the first game, and we threw out a runner attempting to steal. DeMario helped himself in the second game starting a double play. We played good defense today.”
G-MU had four consecutive hits in the opening inning of the first game to take a 3-0 lead. Delmar, Scofield, and Corin Todd had RBI singles. Later in the game, Delmar capped an eight-run fifth with a three-run double. He finished with four RBI and Todd had three hits and two RBI.
Reed pitched three scoreless innings to win his first game as a starting pitcher. Nick Sebeck had two hits for the Raiders singling and eventually scoring the intitial run in the third, then singling in Reed in the fourth.

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville will not appear in Section III postseason play for the first time since rejoining the section seven years ago as Sauquoit Valley scored five in the last inning to rally for the comeback win.
The Indians put together four straight hits at one point, and Mike Lather’s RBI hit put SV ahead to stay. “We gave away too many bases, and went several innings without scoring,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “That kind of sealed our fate.”
Trevor Furner had three hits for Sauquoit Valley, who had 13 of its hits over the final two innings.
Joe Moses and Mike Piazzi had three hits apiece for Sherburne-Earlville (5-11).

LAURENS – G-MU secured a split of a doubleheader with Laurens scoring the winning run in the bottom of the fifth to force a three-way tie for first in the Tri-Valley League Western Division.
The Raiders’ Jen Mason singled to start the seventh, and eventually moved to third as Laurens loaded the bases with walks. An errant pickoff attempt of Logan Eltz, who was on first base, allowed Mason to score the winning run.
In the first game of the twinbill, Laurens scored the winning run in the last of the seventh. “The second game was a totally defensive game, and both teams were making all of the plays,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole.
With the split, G-MU (9-7) is in a deadlock for first with Edmeston and Franklin. A playoff today in Morris will determine the division champion, Cole said.
Katie Bakhuizen had two hits and two RBI for the Raiders in the opening-game defeat, and Sam Delaney had an RBI single.
Laurens’ Sam Louck scored the winning run in the first game on a passed ball.
Courtney Hillman struck out three and walked two in game two pitching a no-hitter. It was a strong turnaround for Hillman, who gave up eight hits to Laurens in the first game.
