Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas at EOH tonight
EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House welcomes Nathan Williams & the Zydeco Cha Chas to its historic stage on Friday at 8 p.m. Nathan Williams plays Zydeco, the fast and furious accordion-driven dance music of the Creole people of South Louisiana, a relatively modern style that emerged after the Second World War. With its trademark rub board percussion, electric guitars and R&B influences, Zydeco is distinct from the fiddle-driven music of neighboring Cajuns. Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas is generously sponsored by Endless Trails Farm, LLC.
Zydeco is now a familiar sound to many, heard in commercials for mainstream companies such as Burger King and Toyota. In the hands of a dedicated musician and songwriter such as Nathan Williams, Zydeco is one of the most expressive sounds in roots music. Nathan’s down-home parables are delivered with surprising musical turns and a distinctive Caribbean lilt that reaches back to the very beginnings of Creole culture in Louisiana.
In 2005 Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas was inducted in the “Louisiana Hall Of Fame”! In 2007 Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Cha’s was named Offbeat’s “ Best Zydeco Band” and “ Best Zydeco Album”!
Don’t miss the high energy Zydeco of Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas this Friday. General admission is $20 and $18 for EOH members and students are discounted to $15. Premium seating in the first 4 rows is an added $5. The EOH Theater is wheelchair-accessible with a ramp and a lift. Don’t forget to visit our Artisan’s Gift Shop and EOH Arts Café! The café is always open before the performance and during intermission, and serves tasty desserts, refreshing summer drink classics, and hot coffee/tea as well.
