Seiler qualifies for state team

Golf

ITHACA – Oxford senior golfer Cory Seiler became the first Oxford golfer to qualify for the Section IV state team in 10 years posting a two-round total of 158 (76-82) to place fifth out of the 21 participants, Saturday at Cornell University Golf Course.
Seiler missed the cut a year ago by one stroke, but was easily within the top-nine qualifiers in his last attempt at qualifying.
“The conditions were really tough and the wind was difficult to say the least,” said Oxford coach Tim Paden. “I would have been tickled with an 82.”
Seiler follows in the footsteps of 2000 Oxford grad Chad Bradley, who made the Section IV team in back-to-back years (1999-2000), and Bradley was the last Chenango County linkster to earn a spot among Section IV’s best.
Lansing’s Austin Moore won overall medalist honors with rounds of 75 and 74.
The New York State Tournament is scheduled for June 5-7 at Cornell University.
