Vikings eliminated from postseason play

BROOKFIELD – Otselic Valley’s late-inning surge fell short, and the Vikings were eliminated from the Section III playoffs, Tuesday at Brookfield.
Corey Cowen drove in three runs for the Beavers, who led 7-2 after three innings. Brandon Kelly was 3-for-3 with two RBI. “We made a few errors in the middle innings and let in some unearned runs,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “That was the difference in the game. We came back, put some runs on the board, and made a good game out of it. Brookfield is a good team, and with a break here or there, we would have had a chance to beat them.”
Chase Marston was 3-for-4 to lead OV’s hitters, Adam Monroe and Mike Larkin had two hits, and Monroe, Larkin, and Dylan Comfort all drove in two runs apiece. The Vikings had won five straight games entering the playoffs improving from a 1-7 start on May 4 to finish the season at 6-8.
“We improved throughout the season and we have quite a few players back,” Loomis said. “The way we finished, I’m encouraged for next year.”
