DVD Patrol

It’s time to warm things up, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is back and Summer is here hotter than ever. The man of seasons, the Toddster, has been braving everything and all types of weather for all movies in theaters, on TV, and on DVD. Our special columns are a blast but we do have to get back to business. A brand new review column is down the road and a Toddster Teamup is just around the corner, don’t forget. We’ve put together a little something something for everybody. Here you go!

New on DVD

Dear John - Sometimes time and distance doesn’t matter if you meet the right person. Even if you love someone who serves their country overseas. John (Channing Tatum) became a soldier to serve his country. Little did he know how much his life would change when he met Savannah (Amanda Seyfried). John was home on a temporary leave and Savannah was on spring break. They always say one look is all you need and you would be hooked. This has happened for them. Unfortunately, John has to go back to Iraq but the heart grows fonder every time he receives a letter from his lady love. Can love truly endure all and will they find a way to make it work? Seyfried can currently be seen in the new movie “Letters to Juliet” now in theaters.

Valentine’s Day - Love in the air in this all star extravaganza finally on DVD. This is the day of the year when men have to make the impression on their special someone of how much they mean to them and what the meaning of their lives. Reed (Ashton Kutcher) wants to propose to his girl Morley (Jessica Alba), his best friend Julia (Jennifer Garner) becomes interested in another guy (Patrick Dempsey), Kara (Jessica Biel) gets interested in a local TV celebrity (Jamie Foxx), and Kate (Julia Roberts) meets an new guy (Bradley Cooper) and they both have different opinions on romance. Will these couples find this day to be the day they connect with them? Cooper is getting ready with the big screen adaptation of “The A-Team’ coming out June 11, Dempsey is wrapping up “Grey’s Anatomy” with a new season set for next year, and Kutcher is getting ready for a new comedy with Katherine Heigl in “Killers” coming out on June 4 in theaters.

Also on DVD

Edge of Darkness - How far will a cop go to find the truth? Especially when it’s his daughter. Detective Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) was a good cop and a family man when it came to raising his daughter Emma alone. As Emma comes home to visit her Dad, their lives are changed forever when she is brutally killed in a drive-by shooting. Craven will do anything to find her killers and thinks that the shots might not have been meant for him. The more he digs into the mystery, he might not like what he finds as he learns more about his daughter and what she does for a living. Can Craven find the truth? Also, more DVDs just coming out include “Invictus” (starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman), “Extraordinary Measures” (with Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser), and “Legion” (with Paul Bettany).

The Spy Next Door - Not all spies are like James Bond. When they’re not saving the World, even they need some down time. Bob Ho (Jackie Chan) needed a vacation and wants to spend some time with his girlfriend Gillian (Amber Valletta) who lives next door and her 3 kids. Gillian gets called out of town and can’t find anyone to watch her kids. Bob volunteers and it might give him a chance to bond with the kids who aren’t so sure about their Mom’s latest boyfriend. However, an old enemy of Bobs’ come looking for him and he has to keep the kids safe and himself in the process. Can the Master Spy play Mr. Mom and take down the bad guys? Mark June 11 down on your calendars as Chan gets ready to take on a new version of “The Karate Kid” with Jaden Smith coming to theaters.

Royal Pains - TV Spotlight is back with a new show that the Toddster can highly recommend. Meet Hank Lawson (Mark Feuerstein). Hank is one of the best doctors who works at one of the best hospitals in New York City. Hank gets the case to end all cases when the hospital administrator has a heart attack and Hank thinks he has everything under control while he attends to a different case at the same time.  The head of the hospital passes away and the board blames Hank so they take away his medical license. Hank’s brother Evan (Paulo Costanzo) takes Hank to the Hamptons to forget about his problems. They attend a party and someone needs medical help where Hank steps in. His problems maybe over when a mysterious millionaire (Campbell Scott) hires Hank as his own concierge doctor and everyone in the neighborhood hears about the new doctor in town. Has Hank found a new career? Season 2 premieres on the USA Network at 10 p.m. June 3 with Season 1 available now on DVD in stores.

The Patrol has been on the job as busy as we’ve been. In one of our recent columns, we had a few TV shows that were on the bubble and not sure they were coming back. We’re happy to report that “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “Chuck” and “Human Target” are coming back with “Burn Notice” being renewed for two more seasons. Also, one of the Toddster’s sources has recently confirmed that “The Six Million Dollar Man” and “The Bionic Woman” are being worked on as we speak and should be released sometime in the fall. See you next week, Patrollers!
