Mid York Shining Brass Band readies for June 13 show

SHERBURNE – The Mid York Shining Brass Band and the Sherburne Community Chorus will share their talents at their concert Sunday, June 13 at 3 p.m. The concert will be held in the Sherburne-Earlville Auditorium.
Also in the musical mix is Elizabeth Bouk, mezzo-soprano. She will perform two solos with chorus and band accompaniment. They ae “One Moment in Time” and “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina.”  Ms Bouk, or Liz, has considerable experience in several musical styles, including opera, where has also performed at SUNY Oswego and in 2008-09 was an apprentice artist at Center City Opera Theater in Philadelphia.  In addition to her solo work, she is the Vocal Instructor at Colgate University.
For those regular followers of the Mid York Shining Brass, they will notice a change from the past in keeping with the Spring season.  The Mid York Shining Brass Band will present a lighter and brighter program which will include: marches: “Bandology” and “Herzegowina Marsch;” a lovely arrangement of “Over the Rainbow” and “I Believe;”  a Glenn Miller version of “American Patrol;” a patriotic “God Bless America”’ and the great dixieland number, “Down by the Riverside.”
In addition to backing Ms Bouk in her two solos, the Sherburne Community Chorus will present a complete concert version of Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, with soloists Jenni Larchar as Maria and Michael Moren in the role of Tony.  More of this in the next week’s paper.
Tickets will be available at the door: $10 general admission; $8 for Seniors; and students will be free.
This program is partly made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Chenago County Council of the Arts.
